When I change the brake pads on my car, do I need to bleed the brakes also?
If the brake fluid is not fairly clear, or if it is dark, it should be flushed out and replaced with the exact proper type specified by the manufacturer.
For most cars, definitely bleed the brakes after changing the pads if:
— There is a fluid leak while changing the pads;
— A fluid leak is discovered & corrected;
— There was a spongy feel to the brake pedal before or after the pad replacement.
